Eva Hornyakova

Eva was born in Levoca, Slovakia and studied opera singing at the Conservatory of Music, Kosice, with Ludmila Somorjaiova. Later, at the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, Bratislava Eva attended Zlatica Livorova’s class. After graduating from the Academy, Eva attended Master classes taught by Peter Dvorsky and Zlatica Livorova.

In 2002, at the M. Sch. Trnavsky competition, Eva was awarded a special prize for her excellent vocal interpretation of song. In 2004, Eva took first prize in the Imrich Godin competition in Vrable, Slovakia. Eva then began slovak interpretive scenes as the protagonist in many vocal/instrumental pieces from modern Slovak composer Vitazoslav Kubicka. In the pastoral messas Znovuzrodenie, Eva performed the main role of Angel. In author´s next piece she sang the part of Katarina von Bora in the opera Martin Luther, and also sang in Kubicka’s Requiem in Kosice under conductor Peter Feranec and she sang in International Music Festival Smetana´s Litomyšl.

Eva debuted in 2006 at the Opera of Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava with role La Contessa Almaviva in Mozart’s opera Le Nozze di Figaro. That same year she reached the semi-finals at Competizione dell´Opera in Dresden, Germany. Eva appeared again in April 2007 at the Slovak National Theatre singing Echo in the new modern production of Strauss´s opera Ariadne auf Naxos.

Her subsequent role, Mimi, in Puccini´s La Bohéme was followed by great success under conductor Oliver von Dohnanyi, reaching the finals in the following International Singing Competitions in Bayreuthe, Germany; world-reknown competition of Hans Gabor Belveder, Vienna; and Maria Callas Grand Prix 2009, Athens. Eva gave yet another inspired interpretation of Puccini’s Mimi in La Coruňa, Spain, Staadstheatre Braunschweig, Germany, State opera in Banská Bystrica, Slovakia, Pafos Opera Festival 2010 Cyprus and in international production for tour cross Japan during September and October of 2010.

Eva’s Mařenka in Smetana’s opera Prodaná nevěsta/The Bartered bride, cast in modern form by Pavel Mikuláštik and conductor Rastislav Štúr in Slovak National Theatre, was a excellent production. During summer 2009 she sang Mařenka on Opern Air festival  in Austrian Gars am Kamp. She continue with roles Pamina /Mozart-The Magic flute with Friedrich Haider conductor, Donna Elvira /Mozart-Don Giovanni/, Marquerite /Gounod-Faust/ in production of renowned stage director Gintaras Varnas for new production of Slovak National Theater in season 2009/2010. Eva was contestant of Operalia 2010 in Milan, La scala, Italy.

The Slovak National Theatre casted Eva for the role of Micaela in Bizet’s Carmen and in Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci as Nedda. In 2011, Eva performed with Mr. David Lomelli and the Bohuslav Martinu Philharmonic Orchestra in the Czech Republic, the Eternal Gospel from Janacek in Janacek Theatre in Brno, and again the role of Micaela in the Opern Air festival in Austria Gars am Kamp.   

With the Italian conductor P. Gatto and tenor M. Dvorsky sang Gala concert of Italian  Bel Canto with Philharmonnic orchestra of Kosice, and Concert tour with G.Mahler's Symphony no.2 in Germany with Neue Wesphalian Symphony  conducted Heiko Mathias Förster . Eva shined as a gentle Desdemona in Verdi’s Otello, casted by conductor O. Lenard. On the Tour with La Boheme of Puccini in Spain and France Eva excelled in the profile role of Mimi under M.Mazik’s conduction.

Later on, the successful opera singer worked closely with the world renowned conductor Friedrich Haider on the Brahms Requiem with The Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra. Italian audiences in Roma rewarded Eva with enthusiastic and extraordinary applause for Gala concerts of arias from the Mozart to  pieces of Verismo, accompanied by Orchestra Sinfonica di Roma. Equally praiseworthy was Eva’s concert in Beethoven’s Symphony No.9 in Musikverein, Vienna.

Upcoming concert for the season include the role of Desdemona in the Pafos Aphrodite Festival, Cyprus; Beethoven’s Symphony No.9 in Rome, Italy; Opening of Verdi’s Requiem under conductor O. Lenard in the Dvorak Hall of Rudolfinum in Prague with The Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra and then in concert tour in Germany with the Neue Westphalian Symphony Orchestra; Easter concert of Dvorak’s Stabat Mater under conductor V. Valek with The Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra, and concert tour in Japan with the Dvorak Stabat mater. Eva is currently studying for an upcoming role of Rosalinda in J.Strauss’s operetta Fledermaus and Verdi’s Traviata.

In addition to her theatrical operatic roles, Eva is a well-known performer in concerts, both at home and abroad.

študovala hru na akordeón a spev na VŠMU v Bratislave. Absolvovala spevácke kurzy Petra Dvorského a Zlatice Livorovej. Je laureátkou medzinárodných speváckych súťaži M. Sch. Trnavského a Imricha Godina. V roku 2007 postúpila do finále na medzinárodnej speváckej súťaži v nemeckom Bayreuthe, na svetovej súťaži Hansa Gabora Belvedere vo Viedni, do semifinále na Maria Callas Grand Prix 2009 v Aténach, na Competizione dell´opera v Drážďanoch a na svetovej opernej súťaži Placida Dominga Operalia 2010 v milánskej La Scale.

V roku 2007 v Slovenskom národnom divadle debutovala ako Mimi v Pucciniho opere Bohéma pod vedením dirigenta Olivera von Dohnányiho. Nasledovali postavy Mařenka (Predaná nevesta) a Micaela (Carmen), s ktorými sa predstavila tiež na Opern Air festivale v rakúskom Gars am Kamp. V roku 2009 ako Pamína (Čarovná flauta) pod vedením dirigenta Friedricha Haidera, neskôr Donna Elvíra (Don Giovanni), Nedda (Komedianti), Rosalinda (Netopier), Adina (Nápoj lásky), Júlia (Rómeo a Júlia). Cenu opernej kritiky získala ako Margaréta po boku svetoznámeho Paatu Burchuladze (Faust) pod taktovkou R. Štúra.

So svojou profilovou postavou Mimi sa umelkyňa predstavila v španielskej La Coruni, v nemeckom Staadtheater v Braunschweigu 2008, s Operou SND na Cypre (Pafos Opera Festivale 2010), v medzinárodnej produkcii na turné v Japonsku, Španielsku a Francúzsku 2011, v Národnom divadle Praha. S touto úlohou získala Cenu kritiky v réžii Petra Konwitschneho 2014. Eva zažiarila ako Desdemona (Otello) na cyperskom Pafos Aphrodite Festival. V Národnom divadle Praha excelovala ako Desdemona s legendárnym Otellom José Curom. Ako Violetta (Traviata) a Magda (La Rondine) debutovala v Prahe v roku 2014 pod taktovkou Martina Leginusa.

Ku koncertným úspechom patrí turné v Nemecku - Mahler: Symfónia č. 2, Verdi: Rekviem s Neue Wesphalian Symphony a Beethoven: 9. symfónia s Orchestra Sinfonica v Ríme a Musikvereine vo Viedni. Verdiho Rekviem a Mahlerovu Symfóniu č. 2 realizovala aj pod vedením O. Lenárda v Dvořákovej sále pražského Rudolfina a na medzinárodnom festivale Smetanova Litomyšl so Symfonickým orchestrom Českého rozhlasu. Absolvovala koncertné turné v Japonsku s Tokyo Metropolitan Orchestra (Dvořák: Stabat mater) a dirigentom Leošom Svárovským. S Filharmóniou Brno spolupracovala pod vedením Libora Peška. V roku 2014 úspešne realizovala koncert i nahrávku Dvořákovej Omše D dur v Concertgebouw Amsterdam s renomovaným dirigentom Serge Baudom.
